Pulls upset of Mateusz Gamrot
LightweightUFC
August 17, 2024
Hooker defeated Mateusz Gamrot via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC 305 on Saturday in Perth, Australia.
ANALYSIS
Hooker won this fight on the strength of pure grit and determination. He gave up five takedowns and ate some massive shots, especially early on, but he just kept coming. This was a classic case of optics playing a big role in the result. Gamrot didn't do a heck of a lot in terms of damage with his positional advantages. And while he matched Hooker blow-for-blow in terms of volume, Dan's shots appeared to land with much more verocity. Gamrot was chasing the fight in Round 3, and Hooker took advantage, winning the frame on all three scorecards. Hooker had a long history of struggling against high-end competition, so pulling an upset of the guy that entered the evening ranked No. 5 in a loaded lightweight division is a major accomplishment. He'll also walk away with an extra $50,000 after this matchup was awarded Fight of the Night honors.

Hooker (arm) will get a lightweight fight against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305 in Perth, according to Farah Hannoun of MMAJunkie.com.
ANALYSIS
Just over half a year since fracturing one of his arms, Hooker has seemingly healed physically, as the UFC is ready to book him his first Oceanic fight since before COVID-19. Hooker's form has varied since then, but a two-fight win streak has earned him an opportunity to enter the UFC's top half at lightweight. Gamrot himself is fighting off a win streak, his last win being one over former champion Rafael dos Anjos.

Hooker withdrew Tuesday from his scheduled lightweight fight against Bobby Green at the UFC's Dec. 2 event in Austin, citing a fractured arm, Danny Segura and Nolan King of USA Today report.
ANALYSIS
Hooker reportedly broke his arm in the same place as he did during his fight against Jalin Turner in July, so he'll likely be out of action for several months. The UFC is searching for a replacement fighter to take on Green on Dec. 2.

Takes war from Jalin Turner
LightweightUFC
July 8, 2023
Hooker defeated Jalin Turner via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC 290 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's going to go down as one of the most lucrative fights of Hooker's pro career. Not only will he pick up his show and win bonus, but he'll also walk away with 20 percent of Turner's purse after the latter missed weight by two pounds on Friday morning. It took Hooker the better part of eight minutes and countless Turner power shots to get his act together. The light finally appeared to go off late in Round 2. Hooker battered an exhausted Turner before clamping on a rear-naked choke that would have certainly ended the bout had Jalin not been saved by the bell. It ended up not mattering, as Turner was dead tired and Hooker is a zombie. Hooker has typically really struggled against the best the UFC has to offer. This victory over Turner is a good one, especially considering the trouble he was in early on, but Dan will need to keep winning in order to make a real dent in a loaded lightweight division.
